Bogotá – Colombia’s capital
As the third highest capital in the world, Bogotá towers at an altitude of 2,640 metres (8,661 ft) in the fertile Cundiboyacense area of the Andes and at the foot of the two Cordillera mountains Monserrate and Guadalupe. Actually assigned to the tropical climate zone, a mild climate prevails in Bogotá due to the high location of the city. Visit the picturesque and colourful cobbled city centre of La Candelaria and drink a freshly brewed „tinto“, a black mildly sugared coffee and perhaps the most classic and best-known hot drink of the Colombians.
Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy climbing the Mt Monserrate (altitude: 3,152 m/10,341 ft) and the subsequent breathtaking view over the city that now lies at your feet. The church with the shrine of the „Fallen Jesus“ is a popular place of pilgrimage for the Colombians and so the whole thing up there also seems a bit like a fair.
Absolute insider tip: Also take a trip to Zipaquirá, about 40 kilometres from Bogotá, and let yourself be captivated by the magic of the Catedral de Sal, a church built entirely of salt inside a salt mine. The atmosphere in the cathedral around 200 metres below ground is both oppressive and impressive and, coupled with the changing #lighting in the narrow corridors up to the cathedral, will definitely remain in your memory.

Medellín
Medellín is also known as the „city of eternal spring“ and with more than 2.5 million inhabitants the second largest city in the country. A gondola ride and the wonderful panorama over the metropolis associated with it is a must, also because certain surrounding parts of the city simply cannot be reached any other way.
In the quarter El Poblado there is the Parque Lleras and thus the hotspot of the city when it comes to good food, bars, restaurants and discos. An excursion to the Parque Arví northeast of Medellín and the Piedras Blancas within this nature reserve is an absolute must-see for nature lovers and hikers, especially due to the numerous wild flowers and butterflies for which the park is known.
Those who are looking for a great panorama and a colourful Colombian small town will find their luck in Guatapé, just two hours away from Medellín, where you will be rewarded with a fantastic view of the wonderful colourful landscape of Colombia from the Peñón de Guatapé – a 200 metres (656 ft) high rock, the top of which can be reached via 649 steps.

San Gil
Although at first glance it doesn’t look like much action in the small town of 46,000 inhabitants, San Gil is still considered a Mecca of Colombia for all those who are enthusiastic about extreme sports. Paragliding, rafting on the Rio Fonce, canyoning tours, bungee jumps… the adrenaline fantasy in and around San Gil is almost unlimited.
